2022 Master Builders Best Sustainable Home Awards winner.

Winners of the Best Sustainable Home

Viminalis, named after the Eucalyptus Viminalis Manna Gum, its design centred on sustainability, harnessing materials that sequesters carbon while efficiently absorbing and disbursing energy. Viminalis is a project that interacts with its environment, capturing solar gains with carefully positioned passive solar design, working to passively heat and cool the home. The colour palette and material textures speak to the naturist surroundings, tying the project into the rich Live At The Cape Biodiversity.

Designed to be as energy efficient as possible, with a 9 star energy rating and follows healthy home building biology principals. Viminalis is built to home a large family in a small footprint with 4 bedrooms, office, 2 bathrooms and a light filled open plan living.

Viminalis is designed by Adapt Designs, a local designer in Cape Paterson.  The Cape Development itself where the home is located has comprehensive design guidelines, with mandatory minimum environmental standards to adhere to. These standards are far above anything else in the area. This home has been designed to adhere and in cases exceed these guidelines. Including optimal orientation for passive solar design, thermally broken double glazing, air tightness, very high insulation levels and thermal mass walls, which all contribute to the energy efficiency of the home. As a result the home will sit at a stable and comfortable temperature all year round, with minimal heating and cooling required, even when outside temperatures are extreme.
