Designed and built for a Melbourne couple looking for a place to escape on weekends, this coastal retreat sits on a small, tree-filled site just moments from the beach.

The brief was to create a low-maintenance holiday home that made the most of a compact footprint, with practical, well-connected spaces and a strong focus on sustainability. The design responds to the existing landscape, working around the mature native trees and drawing inspiration from the coastal setting.

A simple palette of dark cladding, warm timber and natural materials gives the home a strong connection to its surroundings. Timber decking extends the living spaces outdoors, while the darker exterior tones sit quietly amongst the established vegetation. Inside, the warmth of the timber balances the darker finishes, creating a relaxed and inviting feel.

The result is a simple, low-maintenance home designed for weekends by the beach.
